Slater demanded an apology from the passenger, the official said, but the passenger refused. The two argued before the passenger told Slater to “f**k off”, the official said. The official said that Slater then got on the plane’s PA system and directed that same obscenity at all the passengers and added that he especially meant it for the man who refused to apologize.

Slater is alleged to have then activated the plane’s inflatable emergency slide, grabbed two beers from the galley, then slid down the chute, the official said.

Inception (BRONNNNNNGGGG)

So, unlike everyone else in the civilized world, the girl and I had not yet seen Inception until last Friday.

I won’t presume to speak for her, but I thought it was fantastic. The amazing visuals, a compelling and extremely interesting story, and good performances by all of the cast as we explore an unbelievable world made believable by directory Christopher Nolan.

Two musical notes to ponder:

  1. Inception uses Edith Piaf’s “Non, Je ne regrette” to great effect as a musical cue for syncing actions in the various parts of the movie. It is, in effect, how the characters know to wake up from the dream state. The clever bit is how the sound designers used a slowed-down version of the song to produce the distinctive “BRONG BRONG” bass sound for the more dramatic scenes in the movie. Check this Youtube clip, pilfered from the BoingBoing:
  2. In addition to its musical versatility, Andy Ihnatko has a clever little post about how geeks use alarms to wake up, and how that’s changed since Inception was released. I’m posting the relevant image here.

    And as Andy rightly notes:

And yes, it’s an awesome way to start the day. I’ve used that song twice and both times, I awoke with a sense of destiny and purpose. I felt as though incredible things were afoot, and that I was a key player in a complicated and important plan.

And then I pulled my MacBook into bed, and started reading comic strips

The question for me is whether I switch to “Non, Je ne Regrette” instead of “Mos Eisley Cantina Song” by The Max Rebo Band in Star Wars, a tune that the girl has come to cherish [read: DESPISE].

So yes, go see it if you haven’t. Fantastic movie.
